Job Description

Position Overview:

  • Under the direction of the Lead Engineer, the role of the CAD Drafter is to utilize CAD (Computer-Aided Design) to complete detailed, assembly and installation drawings from technical data supplied by Engineers and Designers in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices.
  • This includes the documentation of new and existing parts, assemblies, wiring diagrams and related manufacturing components.
  • Revise existing drawings to meet current engineering standards.
  • Create or modify 3D models while following established engineering modeling practices. • Export PDF, DXF and STP files.
  • Process and manage ECN’s (Engineering Change Notice), ESR’s (Engineering Service Request) and TED’s (Temporary Engineering Deviation).
  • A pleasant demeanor, coupled with strong telephone, internet, face-to-face and written communication skills are a must. Follow up communications and strong organizational skills are essential.
  • The position requires an occasional need to travel internationally.
  • This is a “hands on” position which will involve a moderate level of physical interaction with the build and evaluation of the product. The candidate must maintain an appropriate level of fitness to ensure their ability to operate well and perform his/her job successfully.
  • You will be requested to manage multiple projects, resources and deadlines and provide updates to the team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and author drawing creation, modification and dissemination for all primary vehicle components.
  • Establish common format and content across all existing drawing packages.
  • Assist in in establishing drafting best practices and refine templates.
  • Perform additional projects and duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer.
  • Provide technical support to Local Motors manufacturing facilities through plant visits, conference calls, etc.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently.

 Qualifications & Skills: 

  • 3-5 years minimum related experience in related CAD drafting industry.
  • Highly proficient in Siemens NX design software.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Experience with Team Center a strong plus.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication a plus.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes a plus.
  • Experience in the automotive industry a preferred.
  • Experience with GD&T preferred.
  • Computer skills: In addition to the requirements above, the candidate must have experience with MS Office, including intermediate to advanced knowledge of Word and Excel, Outlook, and other Office suite tools.
